They're not at all concerned about what kids see.  They realize there is
means to protect against that.  Their concern is that 89% of the sites
geared for children that they visited collected information from them
without making any privacy statement.  What they want is for their parents
to sign off on this, knowing that's difficult to do.  So their alternative
is to block such data collection on these sites.  They pointed out a site
that asks if the kids have their own savings accounts, if they have been
given stocks or bonds as presents, and if so by whom, and similar
questions.  This is taking advantage of kids without them being aware of
the consequences as parents would be.  Either industry will have to stop
this or the FTC will.  And they certainly have the jurisdiction to fine
any company selling products in the U.S.
