Thanks for bringing this to the list. The changes are entirely superficial, as you mention. This cannot be what amounts of the project's five year redesign. This is awful.
Since when is `web.py`, the name of a python package released under the public domain, trademarked? The hover effect triggers an unpadded triangle that descends below the baseline of the adjacent text. Gradients? What is happening to the anti-framework framework? The worst part of all — that's it! The few changes that were made all stink of cliche bad web design practices. Right now I see a couple of guys who have invested far too much time synchronizing schedules, creating mocks and going back and forth on something to let it go. Everything said so far has been in defense of the above 6 month old redesign. SIX MONTHS. I don't claim to be a designer, an information architect, or anything but a web.py user but six months for that is downright incompetence. I'm sorry if that hurts. I spent 7 hours last night implementing everything in the Infogami site template. It's feature rich, complete and polished and I've already begun tackling the content. The entire thing has been done in the open. You can grab the feed of http://webpy.org/min/templates/site.tmpl and watch me as I work. I'm storing assets on my server. You can enable it and use it to rev up a feedback loop which could efficiently lead to a full site redesign, content included, all without touching the existing site. You can fork it and we can diff via manual merges. Bleeding edge community members can beta test while new users can continue to use what we all know well already. The main reason we're in this predicament right now is because there was an opaque communication once upon a time to begin a project that idled for 6 months in complete secrecy. I've been waiting for enthusiasm to generate around a redesign for years. - - - Let's try this from a different angle and for purposes of full disclosure. As I've mentioned once before, this redesign is important to the credibility of one of the core components of a platform I'm working on at the moment. This, in and of itself, is no reason for the community to accept or reject my design outright. However, I will be pouring over every word of the documentation as its quality is very important to the goals of my own project. The question is do I have /any/ incentive to stick around and work on things here or do I essentially fork the web end of the project? This is not desirable for me or likely anyone for that matter. I'd much prefer the representation my customers see of web.py to exist at web.py's official website. web.py is an awesome minimalist framework. The website is in dire need and this redesign is a travesty.
