I'm not sure what you mean by a "free-for-all"
wiki.  genunix requires a login to edit the
wiki.   Do you mean that the new opensolaris
portal will restrict what project pages you can add,
much like the current portal? 

To help clarify things, I think it would be helpful to
have a proposed, high-level view of how a user will 
navigate and use the new opensolaris portal.  It's difficult
to translate the requirements into what the new
portal is exactly going to provide.  

BTW, just providing a WYSIWYG editor for a wiki
doesn't mean the wiki syntax is hidden from the
user.  For every wiki I've used (and I've used a lot), 
the WYSIWYG editor only gets you so far.  Users will 
always need to understand the syntax at some point, 
which is why the multiple wiki syntax is still an issue.
