Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode about this? Jerry gave Watley Super Bowl tickets, Watley tried to get Elaine to go to the game with her, hoping to go "downtown," I believe.

All I'm saying is that there are expectations. If it was in a Seinfeld episode, it is gospel.

Of course, but i'm talking about expectations. If you are friends and
trying to save money, or it's a trip to something that you are both
really interested in, then it is different. But, if a member of the
opposite sex (or same sex if you're gay) says "let's go away
together", that sounds like a romantic proposal to me. And if I
didn't want anything to happen, i would make sure we were both on the
same page before we left.
