With small units on "normal" terrains with nothing much around like special items the new way does look a little better. But IMO there is another big impact: The elipsis got a whole lot bigger. Before only a rather small but very noticable part of the elipsis was shown, now it is a whole lot bigger. Eg when recruiting a spearman it looks almost like more of the hex is filled by the elipsis than by the unit what IMO does not look this good. Combine this with the bug amount of scenery items that will have to change (allmost all, even rather simple stuff like the brazier since it looks strange to have a unit stand in there or the altar where the unit stands right in the middle of it, or the windmill that needs almost the complete hex) I currently prefer the old way. Regarding the selection stuff I don't see it as such a big problem, when playing with this change included I did not misscklick a single time though I had the elipsis on, which might make a difference. Overall I don't think the benefit is this big since with the elipsis on you don't notice this good that the unit is higher since the old space is just coverd by the elipsis. Without the elipsis it does look a lot better in some cases but also a lot worse in others. I think it would be a lot work to fix all of this for only a rather small benefit. So my current vote is for keeping the "old way".
