Sure glitches that can be easily fixed shouldn't be considered a
significant detraction,
but most of the issues that concern me are :
• inherent in the change or
• won't be easily fixed and/or
• if changed to accommodate the new center-point, will introduce other
issues

This is a hex based game, with a certain amount of faux-3D effects. But
i don't think the (ultimately unattainable) goal of fixing the
perspective outweighs the inherent problems with this set-up.

You may have noticed in trunk the ellipses have changed, and units are
standing in the center of the hex. It was an experiment to try to
improve the appearance of the game. In a field of grass the difference
isn't obvious. But it matters in other circumstances.

I made the change as a quick proof-of-concept hack for Zookeeper and
it's true it still has a lot of glitches. I'd like to see this change as
is in 1.3.2 to evaluate what the users think about this change. The
release notes should mention it's a proof-of-concept hack. If people
like the change we can evaluate what needs to be fixed and determine
whether or not we want to do it due to the amount of work. Also the
performance should be monitored, somebody on irc is testing the speed
change on a lower end machine but thusfar no results are known.

I know that doing it properly will require quite some work on both
coding and art, that's why I made a 1 minute hack to do it. IMHO opinion
we shouldn't focus on the glitches it causes but whether or not it would
look better to have a unit in the center of the hex. (And based on that
see how much work it is to do it and whether there are people who want
to do the required changes.)

My Wesnoth playing time is a bit low lately :( so I haven't played with
the unit in the center and thus no opinion on whether or not it looks
better.
