Dear All,

This unfortunate issue of the Land grab at Barifa must not be allowed by all
means. We must emulate our brothers and sisters in Acholi on this issue
of Land grab. As someone suggested, this issue must be made clear to our
aspiring politicians that anyone supporting the idea of Barifa Land grab
must never get any vote from the people whose only resource at this time is
the land. We must not allow the future of future generation to such a doom
as our population is still growing, and the need for land becomes even more
pronounced.
The people people in Land Commission in Arua and the municipal and district
officials should not claim ignorance as Mr. Alaka mentioned from the sources
he got the information. How surely can the district/municipal officials
begin to plan for developments in Barifa when the Central Business District
in Arua is undeveloped and the surrounding areas much nearer to the town
centre are all undeveloped. According to some sources I am told the the
brother of some of these big men is involved in this saga. Tullow can not
just come and begin cutting trees in Barifa if no one among the
District/Municipal authorities gave them the green light. This issue should
be the litmus test for the steadfastness of West Nile Foundation if indeed
the Foundation cares about some of the negative issues affecting our region,
and this is one of those negative issues to deal with. I would think it is
in order to put a legal injuction to this land grab as soon as possible. To
get the true information about this issue should not take long lest, more
damage is done to the land by the people who have targeted it.
A legal framework should be institued immediately to stop these people from
taking Barifa. If we can not protect the land we depend on what are we left
with to defend people. This issue should be put to all politicians aspiring
to represent our region.
