Hello Dear Colleagues!

It is not a nice thing to hear that the authorities of Arua Municipality
are abandoning their jewel, the green belt (the forest and the golf field).
I think a city is not just beautiful because it has high-rise "glass"
buildings but that it has some green park where people can go to rest, have
some fresh air, read books, etc. What kind of devil is deceiving people to
think that selling out those places to do other things will be the best
thing? People must know how to appreciate the beauty of their surrounding.
Arua is one of the most beautiful towns in Uganda because of the forest and
the golf field. Now if we lose that what else shall we have yet there are no
other alternatives? Being on Eagle Air one time I was proud within myself to
feel about our town when a passenger (a non-WestNiler) on the same flight
remarked, as we approached the airport, that "Arua is beautifully green!" Do
we want to lose our jewel, beauty and thus our pride?

So, as members have reacted and continue to react, I also appeal to our
colleagues on the ground not to sit and see things get out of hand. They
should get to dig out the facts from different sources that can help them
with details so that they can tackle this matter immediately. One other
thing that has destroyed Uganda today is doing things under cover. Because
of it, there have been too many grave and costly mistakes committed. As for
the green belt-which is already in itself a tool fighting global warming, we
should not let things happen as we see. It should happen elsewhere not in
Arua!

Merry Christmas to you all!

Andrua
