Honestly, I'm a little bit disappointed about the SDK. Because one of the point that
I was hoping to have in WUP was to be able to create script and stuff like that to
integrate into WUP, but we'll have to pay 2 500 USD to have that option. I don't know
who can pay that price to be able to customize but we couldn't for sure.

That was my point, thank you.

Objet: ***SPAM*** RE: [WhatsUp Forum] WhatsUp Professional Pricing

Hi Everyone,

The pricing and upgrade paths are as I listed it below in the message below.

WhatsUp Professional is our next generation network management platform and is
the replacement for the venerable WhatsUp Gold. It's extremely scalable and
extensible and you can expect to see lots of activity surrounding it. The
base WhatsUp Professional will always be available, but you can expect to see
lots of activity in the add-on and bundle space as we and third parties extend
the system into new areas.

Lots of you are interested in the new features that WhatsUp Professional
brings to bear so I thought I'd roll out a quick list to whet your appetites:

Central Device List - System management is based on a list of devices rather
than a map containing devices as was the case with WhatsUp Gold. This
improves performance and efficiency by removing redundant polls and allows the
system to scale linearly.

Visualization - Device list management is done using an Explorer like
interface which allows the use of folders. Each folder may be a subnet or
contain any arbitrary device collection you may need. Maps are graphical
views of folders and you may lay out devices on maps in any way you desire.
Reports too are views onto folders allowing you to quickly view key data for
specific device collections.

Effective Reports - HTML is the vehicle for delivering all reports and the
reports themselves are focused on key areas including health, availability and
performance. They are bold, colorful and meaningful and are meant to address
the key needs of the busy administrator.

Configuration Wizards - Device configuration is managed through simple and
effective wizards that reduce the time and effort needed for the task. In a
single, linear flow devices can be configured for monitors, actions, policies,
intervals etc, without the need to leave the wizard.

SSL and LDAP Support - Web authentication is managed either through the
systems internal user management system or against an LDAP or Active Directory
server. Connections are protected using 128bit SSL as well.

SQL Server - All Data including device, configuration, statistics and logs are
stored in a SQL database. The database is open and may be used for reporting
activities by third party tools or leveraged in other ways depending on need.
The system ships with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Edition (MSDE) and may
be configured to run against Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise as well. We
will be adding support for additional databases in time.

There will also be a C++ software developers kit available for Visual Studio
2003 that includes everything you need to construct custom monitors and
actions, launch discovery, leverage the database and otherwise extend the
system. The target users of the SDK are manufacturers and ISV's that want to
add support for their devices/systems, and technical IT folks that need to
customize alerts, user interfaces or integrate the system with other
management tools. The pricing for the SDK is $2495.00 and includes a WhatsUp
Professional license. Service agreement renewals will be available for
$595.00 annually.

Cheers!

Pete is this product going to get rolled into a product that will cost a
fortune like you guys are doing with the Imail product. If so I will not be
upgrading and wasting my money. What good is an SA that will not cover a new
release? Is there any chance of WhatsUp getting canned in the next year, to be
replaced by a new wider range product? Please reply Thanks Allen

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] WhatsUp Professional Pricing
Importance: High

Hi Gang,

I realize there are some questions regarding WhatsUp Professional pricing and
upgrade path. Here are the details:

Retail Price:............................................ $1495.00 Service
Agreement Renewal................................ $395.00
Gold to Professional Upgrade/SA Holders:................. $0.00
Gold to Professional Upgrade/Non-SA Holders:............. $995.00

For those of you who do not have a current service agreement, the WhatsUp Gold
service agreement may be purchased for $395.00 any time prior to the release
of WhatsUp Professional, which is currently scheduled for 9-Nov-2004. It's a
great way to save a couple of bucks.

Cheers!

Would you like me to respond to this or should marketing take a whack?

Cheers!

Subject: [WhatsUp Forum] Concern over WhatsUP Pro

After the recent release of Ipswitch Collaboration Suite and how they messed
up the way it is marketed (You must buy things in a package not as individual
pieces and having a software contract means nothing you must repurchase) I am
concerned they may try to do the same thing with WhatsUp Pro. Can any one
reassure me that this is not the case, that we will be granted the upgrade to
Pro if we have a service contract?

I don't think I can stomach another $6000 surprise like I had with Imail.

Tim
