Jeff: Note that there was no software development kit for WhatsUp Gold, but there were APIs. It was not easy to create plug-ins or to easily extend the system, but people did anyway. Cemtek's SMS support, Denika from Somix and Netbots are great examples. Also go check out the new PDA View product from Hurd/IT, it's way cool. The database, IIS and the SDK are all extensibility items and will enable for growth of the system by third parties and power users. Most of us have been asking for that for years now. You made reference to being able to do it is the new version. Now it looks like we need to purchase the SDK for $2500 and still need to be able to write C++ code. If we knew how to do that we would have done it long ago. So to me it looks like you have made no changes to this feature except add a large fee to use something that we mostly can't use. A lot of us have programs that we can run to test items. These programs allow us to run them with command line options. It would be very nice to have WUP give us the ability to run a windows command/batch file and test the return of it like we do with the TCP monitor. I know that writing in C++ is better, but you need to be a programmer. None of the users of WUG are programmers! We are system/network admins. We know how to write batch files and other scripting languages, because that is what helps us get our work done. I love the fact WUP will use a database and a real web server with all of the scripting languages supported by IIS. You did give us a lot. However it would be very very nice to be able to have a monitor use the output for a command line as it's test. If you don't want to allow for an expect statement like the tcp monitor, then just give a value we have to return at the command line for a good test. So for example, if the command returns anything but WhatsUpIsGood, then call the monitor down. I have one simple question for the users of Whatsup Gold. Are there any programmers out there that know how to write C++?
