On the Marvel Database Project, we use sub-pages for organizing a great deal
of our content.
We have a very complex template for characters, such as Spider-Man, all of
them which have sub-pages such as:

Spider-Man/Appearances
Spider-Man/Gallery
Spider-Man/Quotes
Spider-Man/Foo

We have over 8,000 articles using this format and it works well for us.
The key is to ensure navigation between the main page and the sub-pages is
intuitive and very 'feng shui'.
Check out one way we have integrated this into our navigation on our
disambig pages:

http://en.marveldatabase.com/Spider-Man

*"A* = Appearances · *CA* = Chronological Appearances · *G* = Gallery
· *Q*= Quotes"

It seems to work well for us. Let me know if this, or similar, might work
for YOU-gi-oh. ;)
