I'm not sure why there's an assumption that edits by members are trustworthy (and edits by others are not). Since anyone can become a member, it's not reasonable to expect none of them will ever do anything bad on the wiki. And you're going to have a problem blocking them from the wiki if editing that is supposed to be something that they've been promised in return for their membership fee - do you want to have to give back their money if you find you need to block them? A better option might be to protect important pages and be quick to block problem users.
