Exactly - autoupdate is very important for the vast majority of users
- and that's what has me POd the most with this mcafee crap. Microsoft
came to that conclusion and it's why WU is enabled on newer machines.
The average user just can't be trusted to update. And if it takes too
much effort, like it does with mcafee, they'll never do it. (As my
daughter never did - it also never ever told her her defs were more
than two weeks old - only that there were updates, did she want to
install them, then required a log in to install.)

I switched over to autoupdate about a year or so ago for WU for my own
machine and can't wait for Office to offer it. Ive always set AV on
auto - it wasn't worth the effort to remember to do it weekly, and
even less to do it daily. I put phil and the kids on autoupdate long
before. It's easier than checking each machine regularly.
