Bad analogy - sticks are fun to drive. :) It's more like electronic
starters, so you can just get in and drive, without futzing to get it
started.

Users don't want to tinker with the computer - they just want the damn
thing to work and the only thing maunal updates does is make it harder
(or makes it seem more geeky) for newbies and non-geeks to use the
computer.
