Ah but if I change out everything but one major component of that machine the license is still valid. Where people break the rules as set down by Bill on high is that they'll remove say the HD with the OS still on it & put that in another machine.

In the case of the specific machine I can replace everything but the mombo, cpu & memory one year & then the next year replace them & still be in compliance. This question is raised at almost every MSFT seminar I've been to. MSFT will cut the person that builds their own systems at home a ton of slack as a rule just as long as they do NOT try to apply the license to more than one machine regardless of where the parts came from originally.
