Get your "tag number" and ask Dell Award Winning Technical Support
how to proceed... I "think" that is part of what you paid for...
I would NOT just (zap) or format the drive unless you looked at it with
some good partitioning software and knew EXACTLY what was on it...
On another list recently, I tried to post a screen shot of a year old Dell
FACTORY partitioning scheme, (and it was not easy/pretty)...
(It was also "un-postable", just like here...)

Let the list know how well they treat you.

A re-install of the CD's they gave you WITH THE UNIT, (or programs
you purchased DIRECTLY FROM them should be covered for what you
want to do...

As always -- with almost everywhere, (except good "full service" shops),
be sure you get out any and ALL data you want. This is rarely covered
(and or saved/protected) when they "fix" your machine by making it (like)
brand new, and "clean as a whistle"...
(Read that as -- they clean out ALL the garbage, including anything of yours...)

When I opened the message, I found that Carl Houseman had written:
       >> It might be easier just to wipe it and start over.

I have come to that conclusion.

However, since most of the programs were already on my laptop when it came from Dell, it isn't exactly clear which CDs are for what.

"One says Drivers, Utilities and Applications"

"For Reinstalling Dell (tm) Inspiron(tm) 1100 and 5100 System Software"

"The software is already installed on your conputer. Us this CD to reinstall the software".

Now, my question is: If I format the HD, the software won't "already" be on my system <smile>.

It doesn't say anything about the OS.

How should I proceed?
