Not to be picky here, but, Outlook and Outlook Express are two entirely different programs. Outlook Express is the pits for newsgroups, though.
I like Agent. I've tried Xnews and Grabit. Xnews is probably a little to quirky or techie for someone new to newsgroups. Grabit is pretty braindead. So far, I think I'll stick with Agent. The free agent version is like the paid version but is a PITA because anything you want to actually be able to do will prompt a pop-up "nag-like" screen telling you that the feature you've selected requires you to do the 30-day trial OR buy the software. But, once you fork out the $$, you'll quickly like the program. Agent is very versatile. Another useful addition besides QuickPar and WinRAR is QuickSFV. Instead of WinRAR, I'm using a free program to handle the RAR function....NewsTools....I think that is the name. Good luck. rlb -----Original Message----- From: Peter Caplan [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, April 20, 2006 6:29 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Newgroup reader recommendations Actually Outlook does have a newsreader - Outlook Express!!!!!!!!!!!! Iether way this is a terrible newsreader for dealing with binaries. I have found Newsbin Pro to be exceedingly good for automatically sucking up and dealing with the thousands of parts that make up some binaries from multiple news servers. As Wayne says there are several others QuickPar and WinRAR are also must have tools for what you seem to want to do. Morning all, Can someone recommend a good newsgroup reader specifically for trawling the binary newsgroups? In my experience postings to the binary groups are split into lots of little postings, so I'd expect there to be programs around that can ensure all the individual files are downloaded correctly.
