You have company when it comes to flaky behavior on this particular mobo.

I see a similar failure mode that you're seeing. Basically, often but not
always,
when it fails (once a week/so) I'm usually moving the trackball on my
wireless
USB mouse, and often there is something significant going on in the
background
(ATI's TV tuner application displaying TV, a network download and so on). I
slightly
suspect some issue with USB interacting with something else, but the failure
is so
infrequent and the conditions so variable that it is difficult to tell.
Since it
failed the same way on a clean install using a different cpu and slower
memory I
don't think the problem lies in that area. Oh one more glitch that I've
seen on
all three versions of this mobo that I tried is bad sound performance.
Sometimes
the sound lags the TV, sometimes it is choppy or has slight intermittent
outages
(almost inaudible they're so quick); that applies to both the builtin sound
and
the Audigy board that I'm running at the moment. I suspect interrupt
routing
and/or PCI problems specific to this board.

Regarding the suggestion to change video cards, you never know, but note
that
one part of changing a video card likely involves uninstalling the old
drivers
and insalling new ones, and that in itself might clean up some software
issues.
Based upon my experience, I don't suspect a problem with video, however.
