Maybe (most likely) the Hitachi drive I have here is a std SATA
connector for 2.5 drive. Model: HTS541080G9SA00
This drive has two edge connectors: 15-pin and 7-pin. Doing some
digging on the net, seems that the 15-pin is a power and 7-pin is
data. Don't laugh, it's me first serious go with SATA :-)
Confused me, as I seem to remember that 3.5 SATA drives had std power
molex.

Yes, the purpose is to back it up. Wanted to do a "clean" backup,
just to have it, in case something happened during "setup", then I
would backup after setup is complete. Maybe I'm overly cautious, but
this laptop will be used by a young lady, who can easily mess it up.
Pulled it to see what animal I had. The store info only said it was
5400RPM. Perhaps all laptop 5400RPM drives are now also SATA.
This is also an educational process for me. Have not delt with
modern tech in a while, as you can see :-) Time to update myself, at
least to a point of recognizing HD connectors :-)

Yes, there are USB ports. You have also mentioned a network image.
So I could use that, after a setup, but not before.
To me the easiest way to save what's on a ATA HD under Win98 is to
plug into another PC ATA controller and have my way with it. Backup
and restore that way, at least with Win98 is a cinch. A simple copy
operation.
