2) I'm surprised that you have to run quickbooks as admin.
You don't, it only requires poweruser rights. Assuming you didn't install it in a system directory like "Programs Files", it might not even require that. Although you might have to assign your user account rights to write to a few registry keys.

I never had to "write to a few registry keys." I'd need lots of help for that... <frown>

I always let programs install to their own default locations... (Been bit too
much getting "creative" about that...) It makes an entire directory structure
for itself... (Very complex too.) <grin>

You don't need to use IE with quickbooks, firefox works just fine. However this method requires firefox downloading the data file from the bank and then it being opened by qxofile or some such quickbooks application. I've been using it like this for over a couple of years.

IE is EMBEDDED into QuickBooks for some of the core features INSIDE
the program - internal/external WEB access and anything that uses (or needs)
an html or "rich text" type of display... There are lots of things inside
QuickBooks that
do not work with my security settings, BUT none of them are "accounting type"
stuff... Just "program bloat" types of things...
Even the internal "on-line banking" works from QuickBooks because the firewall
says it is the QuickBooks.EXE that is calling out to the Internet, not the
Browser...

FWIW: Even my bank hardly knows the difference between QuickBooks
"internal" on-line banking, and ther own WEB site on-line banking...
They proved this by setting their server wrong for me, (wrong account
classification)
and it took them six weeks to figure out THEY had it wrong, not me...
(Corrections and resets take three days to flush through... It adds up fast...)

BTW, I have FireFox 1.5.0.7 on a U3 flash drive (by PortableApps) and like it
fine...
