Jim,
Over the years I've built computers, bought the name brands new and bought
refurbished. In terms of functionality, they were all the same except when
I choose to build one I do it with higher end components. I just bought a
refurbished HP on UBID. Probably saved about $100 to $150. When I went to
set it up, it wouldn't boot. Turned out it couldn't find the hard drive
because the cable wasn't connected. In the process of getting ready to
return it, I called HP customer service and they told me the box was
refurbished by HP BUT not all refurbished computers are done by the
manufacturer. Anyway they steered me on to checking the cable connection
and sure enough that was the problem. I removed as much of their software
as I could and loaded AVG, SpyBot S&D, Windows defender and ZA free version.
Everything has been running fine for 2 weeks. It came without speakers and
a monitor, but I have extras so no problem.

Subject: Refurbished Monitors
Hi Folks,
I know many of you are computer repairmen.
Would you recommend a refurbished computer?
I know I have purchased refurbished items (mostly tools) and have been
really satisfied, but not sure about electronics.
Regards,
Jim
