Would you recommend a refurbished computer?
I've purchased the following used or refurbished:
Desktops: 2 used plus 1 refurbished.
Laptops: 1 used
PDAs: 1 used
Network switches: 1 used
mp3 players: 2 used/overstock.
plus many other used/refurbished/overstock or "open box" items.
I haven't had any significant problems with the used or refurbished
items. If I buy used or refurbished items I look for a substantial
discount relative to a new item, preferably 50% or more. I also
would not get something so old that it is yesterday's
technology. Something that was cutting edge a year or two ago is
often a good bargain today -- the technology is still current, but
the price is lower. You do have to use care in buying -- know the
product and, if you can, know the seller (i.e. on Ebay examine
feedback carefully).
I haven't bought a refurbished monitor, but I would consider one. I
almost bought a refurb Iiayama few years ago, but the discount wasn't
steep enough for me so I got a new one.
Some items require more caution. I hear that refurbished laptop
batteries are usually just used ones and have much reduced capacity,
so pay accordingly.
