I am thinking about buying another HD and trying to install windows

problem, is it a windows problem, MBR, boot sector, etc. I am lost

after restarting the computer hundreds of times sometimes results in
a normal start.
Without the hd in the laptop, does it try to boot? Or at least show
the bios post, or some sign of life on the screen? If no to any of the
above, then most likely the hd (or something hd related) is not the
cause of the problem.
Without the hd in the laptop, it does does not try to boot, tried 20
times with no result other than
the power lite and the fan running, no life on screen. tomorrow when I
am rested will try
reseating the ram and see how easy it is to get to the CPU. What else
should I check while
it is open?
