Actually, netraverse *did* have insider knowledge about the kernel, as
they had the source in beta form for over a year. Everyone who cared
about the code in the kernel could have looked at over the last year.
That's a lot of time to port a kernel patch. It's true some things have
been broken and fixed over that time, but it's my understanding the the
big stuff, like the vm subsystem have been stable for quite awhile. It is
also true that netraverse said they were working on it, giving all of us
the impression that win4lin 2.0 would sometime run on 2.4. Of course I'll
always be able to run win4lin 2 on 2.2.x (but not 19 -- so I'm stuck with
some major security concerns), but I'll have to run it in vmware, as I
must move to the 2.4 kernel for some hardware support features that I
really need. I am interested in win4lin 3.0, but I really don't *need*
all the newer features. I just need win4lin 2.0 to run on 2.4. I am
willing to pay an ugrade price for 3.0, just so I'll be able to upgrade my
system. I've heard $59 as a suggested price for the upgrade (less than
the full price) and would like to note that is more than I paid for the
full version of 1.0, but then again that was an "introductory price".

Anyway, I'll be watching and waiting. I may upgrade, or I may not. I'll
have to judge my oportunity cost. But we do need a 2.2.19 patch for
win4lin 2.0 right away.
