Agreed. I think most of the dissatisfaction is over the "forced" upgrade
being put on us by netraverse, even though most of us are quite satisfied
with win4lin2.0 and have to need to upgrade except for 2.4 support.
<flog horse>
This is rather microsoft-like in tactics. It's not intentional on
netraverse's part (unlike microsoft's forced upgrades). But I'm a little
upset at only being able to effectively use win4lin for just a few months
when I paid with the xpectation (and netraverse implied this) that I could
continue to use this with 2.4. It's like microsoft saying, well, if you
want to use our latest office xp, you'll have to upgrade to windows 2000
and up, knowing full well that we are forced to upgrade to office xp
eventually, and therefore we're forced to upgrade to windows 2000/xp.
(i'm not saying office xp requires 2000/xp, but the idea is right).
Netraverse is telling us (after only a few months after releasing 2.0)
that if we want to use 2.4, we'll have to upgrade, knowing that we do have
to to upgrade to kernel 2.4 because of security, hardware issues. If we
want to keep using win4lin, we have to upgrade to win4lin 3.0. (I could
run it in vmware under an old distro of linux, but that would defeat the
purpose. ;)
</flog dead horse>
Netraverse is doing a reasonable job at keeping everybody happy. We'll
see what happens. I'll probably pay the tax and upgrade, because I do
want 2.4 and win4lin. A business does need to keep the customers in mind,
because thats where the revenue comes from and customers are a company's
best advertizers.
I'm anxiously awaiting pricing info, because I'm wanting to upgrade to
redhat 7.1 right away, and kernel 2.4.3 with reiserfs. That brings up
another issue. Previousy, win4lin couldn't run off resierfs. Has that
changed? If not, can I just put win4lin stuff in a special ext2 area and
the rest of my system in reiserfs?
