Personally I think I would stick with mdk 7 before I'd run 8 and roll back
the kernel. But then I'm still new to Linux and tend to break things a lot.
Staying close to "out of the box install" makes the learning process a bit
less painful.

Yes I'm running vmware and I agree with you, it's a bit of an overkill. I'm
not here crying just to feel the tears on my cheeks :).

Using a 1gig processor and 256mb of ram vmware reaches acceptable operating
speeds. But Win4Lin would be much faster (I'm assuming this will apply to
3.0) and a lot cheaper. <-- 2 of my favorite things in life.

Ah, now I understand. Yes, it would piss me off as well if I went with
Mandrake 8.0 with an older kernel supported by Win4Lin v2 and then
version 3 came out with support for kernel 2.4.x the next day.

Are you using vmware now? I have tried it and thought it was really
good, but sort of an overkill for my needs. Win4Lin is perfect, small
and fast. I have been thinking of vmware at work, though. I used Windows
2000 and would like to drop Hummingbird Exceed and just use Linux. I may
have to look into that.
