Still, there is a learning experience there (as with much of
slackware) which is priceless.  Not that I would want to go back to
Slackware or Red Hat from Debian.  Been there, done that.  

For years I only used modules where I had no other choice, preferring
to self-configure and compile my kernels. I currently have my system
set up to dual boot between Debian and Progeny (a Debian-based
commercial distribution with a neat, but not foolproof, graphical
installer).  The Progeny system is the first time in seven years of
using Linux that I have used a stock kernel past an initial
installation.  I'll eventually move everything to it and wipe off the
Debian partition.
