[Winona Online Democracy] I raised the issue of transit this afternoon with the Project FINE board (I am a new member.) I was surprised at how excited people were to talk about this issue.
I was reminded that it is not just third shifters we are talking about, but also folks who work second shift and have no way home. They can get to work in the afternoon, but... I was also unaware that Ashley in Arcadia runs a van service to Red Top. A meat processor also apparently runs vans into Winona. You are probably already aware that there is coach bus service to several locations in Rochester from Winona. There is a need, as well, for public transport between Rochester, St. Charles, Lewiston, Altura, Plainview, Winona...but it sounds expensive. Apparently lots of folks in the smaller towns have trouble getting in to town for appointments. I wonder if private enterprise would tackle that one. No reaction so far to my park and ride idea. Would it be opposed by merchants who fear a loss of traffic from less mobile customers?
