I would take exception to your statements

Since when was 28 hours per week considered full time employment? Most
government rules and employment practices consider that to be part time.
$15,000/52/28 is $21,428 on a full time 40 hour norm or $10.30/hour to put
things into perspective. I also think you would find very few government or
private sector jobs which offer any benefits, to 28 hour part time
employees. If they do they are prorated to a 40 hour week and require most
if not all the premium to be paid for by the part time employee. Most
medical insurance also only covers basic medical and prescription drugs
exempting dental, vision and many other normal healthcare expenses. Also
the employee out of pocket costs for co-pays and deductibles, when insurance
is offered, would make it unaffordable for most 28 hour part time employees.

People don't need health insurance. They need affordable health care and
until we change the mind set that insurance companies are only in business
to make a profit period; affordable health care will take longer to achieve.
Health insurance is a Trojan horse not a solution!

Hello Winona Online Democracy,

I can't believe that people are so naive about the so called benefits of
Wal Mart.

2. Lousy jobs: The average pay for Wal Mart was $15,000 in 2001. The
average full time employee works 28 hours a week. Only 38% of Wal Mart
employees have any semblance of health insurance, let alone other benefits.
Is that the direction we want to take Winona families?

Wal Mart is exactly what we do NOT need. More lousy, low paying, no health
insurance jobs.
