I've been assuming that trucks would detour to the Gilmore /Cummings /5th
truck route. Maybe they could stay on 5th until Huff to avoid the narrow zig
zag truck route McBride /3rd /Olmstead /2nd. That way the commercial harbor
trucks could avoid the tight turns at 2nd and Huff. Or the 2nd and Huff
intersection could be improved beforehand. As it is now, turning trucks
occasionally hit the corner light poles. Maybe a temporary rail yard
crossing could be established between the city garage and the barge harbor
if grain traffic would warrant it.

And speaking of the Pelzer bridge: I often bicycle to work through that
area. It's a hazard now due to drivers using the bike lanes and shoulders to
pass slower traffic. The bridge plans don't seem to improve the situation.
The bike lanes will stop and become traffic lanes when approaching the
elevated intersection of Pelzer and Theurer.

Subject: [Winona] Traffic on Pelzer

> Winona On-Line Democracy participants have sought meaningful community
discussion and participation for some time. I offer the topic of traffic
flow consideration(s) as will be affected by the closing of Pelzer Street
for approximately three months for bridge construction in 2006.
