I would fully agree that most elected official to do the job we elected them
to do will put in many hours per week beyond their normal job. During their
term they will put in lots of hours away from their family and their
employment to serve us. Those elected carry the load and responsibility to
police the system, sort out the facts, prepare for meetings, take our heat,
challenge the information presented by all so that when their vote is cast
they are prepared. Anyone elected which does less should not have run.

However, I strongly disagree, that any compensation is required or necessary
to get good people to run for office. Civic duty is part of the process of
a free society and when the day comes that good people will only run if they
are compensated is to belittle those who volunteer for Habitat, the food
shelf, serve on a church board, Red Cross Board, Chamber Board or help on
Blood Banks or in service organizations. We all need to step up to the
plate sometime during our life and good people don't get better because they
are paid.

While I may not always agree with School Board decisions, I do think they
are grossly underpaid for the time and service they give to the community.

In my opinion, School Board salaries should at least be closer to the City
Council range.

I hope people realize how much time they give.

Their marathon meetings are nothing compared to the phone calls, e-mails,
personal visits, and other meetings they attend.

They really do work hard at what they do.

Ed or someone else, do you know what is the salary range for School Board
members across the state?
