those guys: the suits, on travel, in need of a hotspot are almost always going to be using a vpn solution to get back to their exchange server on their home network.
IMHO, this might be true of Fortune 500. But there's an awful lot of small, medium, large and even very large organizations that don't run Exchange, have a minimal IT department, think VPN means visible panty network, etc etc. There's an also an awful lot of self employed and contractors, who wear suits but are their own IT dept.
I'm not denying that for some corporate types, this is not an issue because they have an IT dept that knows what they're doing. But the problem still exists for everyone else. And exists even for them in terms of getting their home email from their home ISP.
shared drives: xp nt and 2k all have c$ and admin$ shares by default, they are usually locked down, but not impenetrable.
