We use GPON.  BPON died (as a spec) very soon after it was implemented.  As 
did APON and EPON.
It is not wave division, it is very similar to CATV in that you can split it 
down the equivalent of 16 dB and you have a brick wall distance limitation 
of 12 miles on any leg.  It does use two different wavelengths, one down and 
the other  up.  You can split it 2 ways followed by a 4 way split on one leg 
and an 8 way split on the other etc.  It seems to be working flawless for 
us.  I don't know if any problems with it meeting the split or distance 
specs.  Panaway/Telstrat is what we use. I don't know if they have a primer 
or not.
