I agree. Always found the about GNUStep button useless.

Using the primary dock button for launching WPrefs shold definitely be
the overall default already on source code level! This is thwe way it is
also configured for the Window Maker Live CD. Unfortunately i don't
speak C, so i can't send in any usable patch myself.
As much as GNUstep is an absolutely interesting project, the "About
GNUStep" has become a mere reminiscence of a past which has never become
reality.
The current state of GNUstep may definitely be very advanced, much more
so than the since long very outdated GNUstep packages in Debian do let
assume, but it appears to be stuck somewhere on the few last miles of
it's lengthy marathon since long time, while Window Maker moves on.
Window Maker has become, in the real world, related to the much more
commonplace GNOME/GTK environments (maybe also KDE?). Isn't it finally
about time to acknowlegde that?
