Zeev,
that's not correct. WSJT-X will control the mode of your rig if you wish
it to. The options available in the "Settings->Radio-Mode" group
determine the mode used on your rig:
"None" - WSJT-X does not attempt to control the rig's mode,
"USB" - WSJT-X sets the rig mode to USB,
"Data/Pkt" - WSJT-X sets the appropriate USB data mode on the rig.
Note that the "Data/Pkt" option only works if your rig has a suitable
AFSK data mode. Note also that Omni-Rig is quite limited in the rig
modes that it supports and the Omni-Rig .ini file for your rig may
require modifications to support a suitable USB data mode, this is
particularly so with rigs that have both AFSK and FSK data modes available.

When using Omni-Rig, I believe WSJT-X Does not control the operation
mode of the IC-7300 regardless of the "Split Operation" selection.
As far as I can tell, WSJT-X assumes the user is responsible for
selecting "USB-D" for both VFO-A and VFO-B.
Here is a scenario that demonstrated this:
- Change the operation mode to "LSB" using the touch screen
- Change the frequency a bit using the VFO knob
- Start WSJT-X
- Set "Split Operation" to "None" using File -> Settings... -> Radio
- Select the current band in WSJT-X
- Verify that the proper frequency is set
- Notice that the mode remains "LSB"
- Select the "CQ" Command
- Click the "Enable Tx"
- Notice that the mode remains "LSB" during the transmission
- Click "Halt Tx"
- Notice that the mode remains "LSB" after the transmission
An Omni-Rig log file, created when Omni-Rig was working exclusively
with WSJT-X, is available at
