Comrades

I have read the statement of the YCL and find it to be a
neatly balanced and reasoned statement, it seems uncouth to
then accuse the latter of unreasoned condemnation. The
problems of soldiers in SA are from the era of integration.
We allowed our cadres largely to be integrated at entry
level (where a soldierearns about R2000 in comparisons to
SAPS R6000). Few are asking why a significant number of
these soldiers are actually former liberation combatants.
many of whom former commissars meaning that they can see an
injustice and would have thought and sought other remedies
before their regrettable action which the YCL correctly
also condemns.

Now that the courts have made a determination on the
unionization of soldiers it is only prudent that the state
engage with them to agree on union activity in the context
of the military. The dismissals seems to harsh given the
failure of the state over time to resolve drawn out
grievances. We cannot afford to have more militarized but
unemployed people in our communities and hope that crime
will not rise.
