I read with utter disgust the celebratory statement by SASCO welcoming the court verdict by the Equality court on Julius Malema. My initial thought on the matter was to question how a supposedly progressive student formation can ever celebrate a verdict on a complaint laid by the liberal and racist Afriforum on one of its own. How does a PYA component resort to joining the opposition in its attack against another PYA leader within the MDM. Perhaps more puzzling is that the alleged ‘hate speech’ was said at a SASCO gathering, and SASCO as an organization failed to correct or reprimand Julius at that very gathering last year, let alone raise its dissatisfaction. Instead his articulations where met with delight and cheers from the audience including its leadership. This mischievousness with the truth or sudden amnesia of the occurrence of events by SASCO is questionable, and can only be deduced to reflect the highest form of grandstanding and opportunism. The only conclusion one gathers from this is that the leadership of SASCO is in a desperate attempt or quest to position itself along the current 2012 debacles (inspite of the 16th National Congress resolution against such), to the extent that it dishonestly conjures up and clings to an event in history it had no problems with. The tone and attacks on the ANCYL in the latest press releases sent under the name of SASCO from the YCL Press Release account is perhaps a guiding clue to the real misdemeanor behind the monkey business.
