Whilst I concur with this scientific observation “ruling ideas are those of the ruling class” we should ask ourselves as to what happens when people use this as a façade towards their misguided actions and misfortunes, as it would be dangerous of us to be myopic and see the aforesaid statement as a dogma scientific as it is. I want to believe that within our organizations there are those who unconsciously or consciously protects the interests of capital. And in some instances the same people might be exposed by the media for their selfish ends, it would therefore be suicidal to apply a one size fits all approach. If my memory serves me well it was in October the 19th wherein some media institutions and mainly black journalists were banned by the apartheid regime as they were not serving the interests of the government of the day, are we therefore going to say during this particular ruling class ideas were not dominant?...yes many of us continuously say Sowetan is one of the newspapers who were progressive during apartheid days, didn’t we have ruling class at that time to dictate terms on them? Are we saying here that all journalists serve the interests of the ruling class; I don’t believe that for a second. Equally I fully support that any wrong doing or journalist accepting brown envelopes must be brought to book, I am 100% behind that but I have a problem when this information comes out in a form of a threat to those who might write scathing stories about some of us, as I find that opportunistic. We must expose corruption whenever it rears its ugly head and not be selective or seasonal in our approach in that way we would be laying a good foundation. Also I am one of those who tends not to be concerned about private lives of other people, to me it doesn’t really matter who sleeps with whom, as it is a private matter between those consenting individuals. We must indeed reject any form of interference to private of other citizens. SAY NO TO THOSE WHO SNEAK INTO OTHER PEOPLES PRIVATE LIVES/BEDROOMS! I am very sure that we all agree that our media does not play the expected role. In a class struggle ideas, beliefs and values are important and media is a very strong tool that cannot be left in the hands of class rivals. But to be honest in the spats of the past two months you one does not not the difference between a revolutionary and a reactionary, between communist and capitalist, between conscious or spontaneous assertions etc. Our media has also played a large role in pitting comrades against each other. This country, I repeat, is far from producing alternative media. I was told that Kaya FM or Y-FM, I am not sure which one, is the product of the ANC. If this is real, are we using it to the advantage of our revolution? I believe Floyd we also close space when we attack people that we should have won to our side. The liberation movement, we say is an omnibus, meaning that we should mobilise communities and consolidate them behind the ideals of the working biased NDR. Journalists should form part of that. The recent internal and dynamic processes in the movement have shown that self-destruct is possible if there are no revolutionary checks and balances in what we do, these can come thru patriotic media, revolutionary Alliance, communities, revolutionary intellectuals etc. importance of ideas, beliefs and values with regard to the class struggle. On 3/18/10, Nyiko Floyd Shivambu <[email protected]> wrote: "The individuals composing the ruling class possess among oth er things consciousness, and therefore think. Insofar, therefore, as they rule as a class and determine the extent and compass of an epoch, it is self-evident that they do this in its whole range, hence among other things rule also as thinkers, as producers of ideas, and regulate the production and distribution of the ideas of their age: thus their ideas are the ruling ideas of the epoch"...... This stems from a correct scientific discovery by a revolutionary scientific socialist, Karl Marx, whose correct observation was that "the ideas of a the ruling class are in every epoch, the ruling ideas". I am now worried that Dominic (whom you refer to as VC) is misguiding 'commmunists" to defend Journalists, who in a capitalist society are agents of the capitalist mental reproduction. factionalism has potential to annihiliate our organisation. -- You are subscribed.
