Of course there are other translations of 'dukkha' - such as
'dissatisfaction' - that aren't so easily confused with physical
pain/body information (which of course can also be seen as a source of
dissatisfaction when resisted).
Animals suffer: Plants do not (seem to suffer).
So it appears through human eyes. We cannot know.
Maybe, some day, plants will be shown to be equally -- however
differently -- as sentient as animals. Then, all vegetarians and
vegans will be in some trouble.
Does the obvious need to be shown to us? Do the stars cry out as they
are pulled into the singularity at the galactic core? Could we not
interpret their increased emissions as such, just as we with an animals
cries?
I too am a strict omnivore, Glenn. But I have been in/gone through 10
or 12 year periods of being solely vegetarian, from time to time.
Things keep changing. ;-)
Yep, I have gone vegan for a spell now and then myself. Not for any
religious or moral reasons, it just seemed right/felt right at the time.
Have had to eliminate wheat last year or so. Body speaks clearly enough,
as its needs change. I don't always listen, or have resources to eat
optimally.
