William,
This is just what Lichens does: subsists and thrives on rock, water, and air.
Lichens no doubt helped condition our planet so we may live, since green
Lichens produce Oxygen. And, they turn rock into soil. It's amazing stuff.
I love seeing it and photographing it, up in mountains, and out on hikes, all
over the world.
Meanwhile, I believe it's certain that Brocolli feels no pain. Bite with
enthusiasm! (if it bites back, send me a note?).
My wonderful monastic Ch'an teacher Sheng Yen used to say, "Eat what you want,
BUT, REMEMBER WHERE IT COMES FROM."
Some folks say, never eat anything that can SEE you. ;-)
I don't think my steaks or bacon slabs can SEE me.
Just a joke. ;-)
See you!
