Merle, My point is that (IMO) the Dalai Lama can't be both the political leader of his country and the religious leader - especially if that religion is anything close to Buddhism. (Actually the religion in Tibet is not Buddhist but Lamaism, but most people including the Dalai Lama himself refer to it as 'Tibetan Buddhism'.)
Anyway as of 6 months ago or so the Dalai Lama renounced his position as the political leader of Tibet. Maybe now he'll be able to minister to his people a little better. To your other points, nationalism is just another attachment and one that has caused and continues to cause a lot of suffering for a lot of people in this world. "When will we learn?
