With a "free and easy" style of practice -- or no practice at all -- one does
never realize, never awakens.
That's not a pretty picture, especially if one thinks one is practicing. As
you know, this is why a teacher is so helpful.
Scoliosis is one thing, and can be worked-around; but a straight spine is the
lowest-energy solution for those planning to carry out a sitting practice.
Eyes open is helpful for avoiding sleep and for developing samadhi.
There is wisdom in the methods as they have been handed down to us, and
compassion.
Deconstruct them privately at your own peril, but there's no need to cast
aspersions here about them.
Now, let's hear about Merle's practice.
