Edgar,
If you'd heard or chanted the vows in English, you might have come to
understand them.
Shame on you mouthing only gibberish in Japan, on someone else's Dime.
Attend:
There are four Bodhisattva vows. Follow me, now: and observe.
Old Casey Stengel said, "You can observe a lot by just looking."
The many Beings are numberless; I vow ...to save them;
Greed, Hatred, and Ignorance rise endlessly; I vow ...to abandon them;
Dharma Gates are countless; I vow ...to wake to them;
Buddha's Way is unsurpassed; I vow ...to embody it fully.
As you can see, these are all vows by the Bodhisattva for the Bodhisattva. Or
maybe you can't. But the Bodhisattva, being what the Bodhisattva is, will
surely save those beings. I mean, you may rest assured. Especially if you
make these vows. Not otherwise.
At awakening, there's no self. Nor beings. But this does not stop you from
continuing in harmony with beings. This is "saving", even after all are saved.
It will never be clear to you until you drop everything.
My Shih-fu used to say, "Even your socks".
This is why I am the nudist I am, to this day. A nudist Buddhist balloonist
flutist cartoonist parachutist. Friends say the cutest. I dunno about that;
it makes me blush.
Speaking figuratively?: why, certainly.
