I'd say contrariness is *POSSIBLE* in thought, and attitude, and not in Zen 
(i.e., not in the awakened state).

In the awakened state, only Wisdom and Compassion arise (simultaneously).

Acceptance becomes not necessary in the awakened state, but useful (and 
skilful!) in the thoughtful state!
