Howdy, Bill!,

There are other reasons for some of our physical manifestations in practice,
such as our use of mudras, and not just the good reason of giving us one less
thing to be random about in our public and communal practice as a sangha.

In both the Zazen mudra and the Shashu position, there are physical reasons for
them, and physical wisdom. And, as well, a Symbolism.

If anyone is interested and starts a thread about this, I'd promise to
contribute a few lines on what I know about them. Of course, whether folks
choose to appreciate the reasons or not is merely an easy personal choice: but
the reasons are "THERE"!

And to the extent that Humans are symbol-makers and symbol-users, the symbolism
is manifestly human, and a little interesting. ;-)
