Mike,
A kid with a respect for the Law would just wait. Some do.
Like me: I did not take a drink in New Jersey until I was 21.
I went just across the bridge to New York, where at 18 it was legal.

PS (My Dad bought me my first "New Jersey" draught beer at a simple
neighborhood working-man's bar on my 21st birthday. It was lovely. We walked
the one block from the old family house, to there, and back, and then continued
the party at home. Then I went out with friends. Ooh, days gone by... ).
Still respecting the Law (in most respects). ;-)
