Allow me to share with you all a story that brought me into the study of Chinese Zen (Ch'an) ------ it happened in a pulling rain evening in Taipei many many years ago when i sat in a taxi and listened to a radio interview program:

A director from a heavy handicap institute said in the morning when he was in the process of preparing his interview due that night, he walked and tried to figure out as what and how he could explain the complexity of Chinese Zen (Ch'an) in simple message to audience of the radio station, and then he saw a child who has Mongolian syndrome was smiling at a flower with most beautiful smile on his innocent face.  He asked him, what made him so happy.  The boy replied: It's growing !

At that time, my job was very successful but my private life.   I felt very unease because I sensed I have lost the balance of life.  That story helped me realized when I was busy for achieving and defining goals, I forgot to spend time to stop by and appreciate the surrounding, including myself. My frustration then was because I held on myself too much so I have to learn to let myself down and enjoy innocent smile again.

The conclusion made by that gentleman at the end of the radio interview, he said Zen is not thing but everything, you can't see it but it's every where; it is simple that you can not put them in words.  Three letters in English while one word in Chinese, but yet you can not put its endless in any size of box.

Of course, this is my personal experience and my own interpretation of what Zen should be in life.  But on the HOW part, I am still enjoy learning everyday.
