Once upon a time there was a
village in which there lived a very wise woman. Every day the
villagers flocked to her home in the forest to ask her
advice.
The villagers kept a respectable
distance from the wise woman as they poured out their troubles and
asked for advice. For years, the wise woman never failed them and the village
prospered.
On day a young man went to see the
woman for the very first time. Not content to keep a respectable distance, the
young man ventured closer. He wanted to get a close look at this
remarkable woman.
Alas, when the young man got closer
all he could see was the gnarled trunk of a tree which had decayed to resemble
an old woman. The wind whistling through the branches sounded like the words,
"Endure, endure, endure!"
