So, Zenoss is installed and functional; all daemons green, rock and
roll. I've installed snmpd on the Zenoss server and another server.
The conf files are set with the recommended settings in the Zenoss
manual, the daemons restarted, snmpwalk on the individual machines
shows oodles of info. Fantastic.
Problem: Zenoss detects nothing. All the switches and hubs in the
network can pass SNMP so this is not the problem. The SNMP daemon
is started on both machines, but trying to snmpwalk from one to the
other shows that SNMP does not appear to be active. A quick netstat
on the servers shows that though port 161 is active, nothing is
listening on it. I've tried adding a device as 127.0.0.1 on the
Zenoss server with no luck.
Though this does not strike me as a definite Zenoss issue, does
anyone know where I'm going astray? Why are my daemons deaf to Zenoss?
Is it possible that your devices are firewalled and not allowing
Zenoss to query port 161/udp?
