I first worked it out on Zenoss 1.1.1, and when I upgraded to 1.1.2, all I had to modify was zope.conf; everything else I'd patched was still the same. Don't know about 2.x, as my Zenoss box is still running 1.1.2. At one point, the devs talked about 1.2 while 2.0 was in beta, but I guess it never saw the light of day. I'm looking at upgrading to 2.1.1 very soon now (since I got new iron for it), and I'll make a post about what changed.
